Cynvenio Biosystems Inc. is a privately funded start-up based in Westlake Village, California. The company was founded in 2006 on the strength of the technology developed by Prof. H. (Tom) Soh’s lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and a development contract funded by the US Army Research Laboratories (ARL) via the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB).
In 2008, after performing successfully on this first project for bacterial library sorting, the company raised some private capital and undertook a more ambitious bioengineering development program focused on rare cell isolation, among other things. The company operates two laboratories in Westlake Village and Los Angeles, California, and has been validating its technology against patient samples since mid-2009.
Cynvenio (sin-veh-nee-oh) is derived from Cyto, from the Greek noun for "cell", and invenio, from the Latin verb "to invent". The name was thought up by one of our engineers (thanks David) and it stuck. |
